Operating a business on the internet as an affiliate

The internet has opened the door for anybody to start a business with minimal capital. By right, anybody with a grain of intelligence, some knowledge of working with a computer and has an Internet connection with e-mail address should be able to operate a business on the Internet and secure an income.
WHAT IS AN AFFILIATE?
An affiliate, in terms of the Internet, means to have formed an affiliation with a person or body to represent that person or body and sell/market its/their products and/or services using the Internet.
WITH WHOM CAN AN AFFILIATION BE FORMED?
Affiliations can be formed between just about any two parties. The one must have a product or/and service and the other must be willing to sell/market that product or/and service. The Internet marketer does not have to stick to only one affiliation but I will suggest that at no time should there be a conflict of interest i.e. selling the same article from different companies. It is just not ethical.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
The person that has the products/services appoints people to sell/market his/her products/services for a commission. The seller will learn as much as possible about the products/services and will then use the Internet to promote these products/services, obtain orders and, depending on the association, collect the money and pay the supplier who in turn will see to it that the products/services are despatched/completed.
There are however different ways in which an affiliation can work. In many instances the owner of the products only wants the seller (sales affiliate) to promote sales leads and will than pay the affiliate a commission for all successful leads.
Another way is the affiliate will get to know as much as possible about the products/services and will than physically sell these to clients canvassed, collect the orders and the money, pass the order and the purchase price of the products on to the supplier who, in turn, will than see to it that the order is despatched. The affiliate keeps the profit made from the order.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES?
The advantages of creating an affiliation are quite astounding if done correctly and we will have a look at these from two sides.
1. Advantages to the Supplier/Manufacturer
What is more wonderful than to have an unlimited amount of people selling your product that are not in your direct employ.
You are not responsible for monthly salaries - you only pay commission when orders are achieved.
You have no staff overheads.
The people selling for you do not add to your headcount.
They do not go on holiday where it is costing you money.
You do not have to worry about having to pay for sick leave.
All orders received are paid up front.
All the product supplier has to worry about is production, product quality, supply product information and training to the affiliates.
It has been found in America, where affiliations are big, that manufacturers of products have actually been able to lower their selling prices due to the saving made by not having permanent employees.

Can work from home
Can have affiliations with many companies
Can follow trends and fashions to suit needs

The best way to start setting up an affiliation is with products of which you already have knowledge. During your time as a full time employee you may have been involved with products and services and over the time span have built up specialist knowledge.
To market products via the Internet you will first have to register a domain name and create a website. On this website you will have an online ordering or/and request more information facility. On the website you will encourage people to subscribe to your newsletter. In these newsletter you will include information that is valuable and informative to the reader and will entice him/her to visit your website. Newsletter are transmitted via e-mail.
Over a period of time you will have collected quite a large list of e-mail addresses and as it easier to sell to someone who you have sold to before and who have come to trust you you will find that you can increase your product range and promote these to a captive market.
